‘We did Loud Shirt Day in 2015 to support children with hearing loss at The Shepherd Centre. The fact that it is a local charity was a bonus for us! A lot of the customers didn’t know that The Shepherd Centre was here in Newtown.
‘We’re hairdressers and love dressing up so any opportunity for us to do something that’s different and to break the usual routine is great – and it’s so easy to execute too! The staff understood the reason why we were doing it and all got behind it. We raised around $1200.
‘All 12 of our staff dressed up in crazy stuff and we incorporated different prizes and gifts for clients once they made a donation.
‘I wore a flamingo on my head so I was asking every one of my clients for $10 just because of the fact that I was wearing a bird on my head all day!
‘My advice to other small businesses is to get involved and see what happens. I think it’s so important for businesses to give back to the community and Loud Shirt Day is so easy to do too.’
